A House With History. Quite a lot of It, actually.
Built around 1910, the Thomas House has been standing in Forest Grove for more than a century. In that time, it has made it through two World Wars, Prohibition, changing fashions, changing families, and more than a few decorating trends that were probably best left in the past.
Originally associated with Arthur B. Thomas, a Union Army veteran who later made his living growing fruit, the house remains one of Forest Grove’s distinctive historic Craftsman homes.
Much of what gave the Thomas House its character more than 100 years ago is still here today: broad porches, generous window bays, beautiful leaded-glass sidelights at the entrance, substantial woodwork, and the kind of architectural detail that modern builders tend to describe as “too expensive.”
Today, the Thomas House has a new role as Relax Inn the Grove. We’ve kept the history, personality, and occasional old-house quirk while adding the modern comforts most of us have become quite attached to: Wi-Fi, air conditioning, private bathrooms, and absolutely no expectation that anyone churn butter before breakfast.
So yes, you can stay in a house built around 1910.
No, you do not have to vacation like it’s 1910.
Instead, settle in, enjoy the craftsmanship, claim a spot on the porch, and spend a little time in a house that has been part of Forest Grove for more than a century.
The history is authentic. The plumbing is modern. We think that’s a pretty good arrangement.
